Hissein Ibrahim Taha Takes Office as OIC Secretary-General
Former Chadian Foreign Minister to Lead 57-Member Organization
Taha Elected at OIC's 48th Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting
Hissein Ibrahim Taha has officially assumed office as the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The appointment was made on November 17, 2021, during the OIC's General Secretariat meeting.
A seasoned diplomat, Taha previously served as Chad's Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is the twelfth Secretary-General of the OIC, an international organization comprising 57 member states from across the Muslim world.
As the Chief Administrative Officer of the OIC, Taha will be responsible for leading the organization's diplomatic and economic efforts. He will also represent the OIC in international forums and work to promote cooperation and unity among Muslim countries.
Taha's appointment was welcomed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo. In a meeting with Taha, President Widodo expressed his confidence in Taha's ability to lead the OIC and strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and the organization.
